Plastic Wrap- Plastic wrap is a broad phrase that refers to a variety of materials. Plastic wrap most commonly refers to industrial plastic wrap used to secure pallets or food-grade plastic wrap. Food plastic wrap is a thin plastic film that is often used for sealing and securing food products in containers to keep them fresh. It is also known as cling film, food wrap, and saran wrap. Food plastic wrap is sold in separate rolls or, more commonly, in a box with a cutting edge on it. Plastic wrap was invented in 1933 by a Dow Chemical lab technician (Ralph Wiley) who was having difficulty washing out beakers used in the development of a dry-cleaning product. Initially, the chemical was created as a spray to be sprayed onto fighter jets to protect them from salty sea spray. PVdC (Polyvinylidene Chloride) was the first plastic wrap invented. Dow Chemical perfected the spray and created saran plastic wrap in 1949.
